Reserve a time to take a 3-hour guided trip through the Gorge. The flood of 2002 filled Canyon Lake enough to overflow over the spillway as high as 7 feet. The water was rolling over the spillway for six weeks after the rain stopped.
The result of the outpouring up to 67,000 feet per second of water carved a canyon over a mile long and up to 50 feet deep. In doing so, the water uncovered a vast number of fossils dating back approximately 100 million years ago. On the guided trip, you can see fossilized snails, fish, and dinosaur tracks just to name a few things to see.
